AR 15s in schools

Fins,
150 to 200 yards with iron sights (front post and rear peep sight) apparently I did find the one, I've not shot any other Mini 14 so I based my opinion of the make and model off of mine. I have the old ranch model with full wood stock, and shoot quality ammo.

Knslyr, I have two grand daughters in the school system and several great grandchildren either in school or soon to be so I feel I have a vested interest in what happens to them.

For what range? 100yds? I like the mini 14, but they aren't known for accuracy and I doubt you found the one that is different

Fins,
Mine is extremely accurate, a real tack driver.

I've never heard anyone describe a mini 14 as accurate.

168,
While I've been issued some of the finest semiautomatic handguns since, I always preferred my S & W 686, in my opinion one of the finest (if not the finest) law enforcement revolvers ever made.

JIMBO The popularity of the AR platform lies in the fact that they have very little recoil, are simple to operate, and easy to maintain. And are more accurate that the average shooter can hold. With over 20 million of them out there it shows gun owners like the firearm.

168,
Back up irons are a must and I must admit it's always good to have a light attached.

On a side note, about 30 years ago I read an article in a police magazine stating that at that time San Francisco PD issued 2 long guns to every marked car, a 12 gauge pump and 30-30 lever action. I sowed the article to my agency's guy in charge of firearms qualification who very quickly said "you ain't carrying no deer rifle in your car". At that time my agency did not issue any long guns, if an officer wanted to carry a shotgun or rifle they had to purchase it themselves and supply their own ammunition as well, times have changed.

Except for optics and back up irons mine are pretty much plain jane. I do own one with a sure fire light attached

168,
I prefer the Ruger Mini-14 Ranch model myself, you just can't add all the cool stuff to the rifle like you can w/ most AR platforms; but a more accurate rifle you will not find.

Plus with the right ammunition like hornady tap 223 is less likely than a 9mm pistol bullet to pass tru a body and injure a bystander. Over penetration is always a factor,

Jimbo,
AR-15's are a very effective shoulder fired rifle, even w/o aim assistant optics or a scope (iron sights) a shooter can easily make accurate shots up to and beyond 200 yards.

Define high Capacity? 20 or 30 rounders are pretty much standard,That what most departments go with. There are are 60 , 90 and 100 rounders out there on the market. They tend to be very unreliable though

Curious as to why the weapon of choice is the AR-15? Will they be supplied with high-capacity magazines?

If you don't have kids that go to school in that county OR work in that school system you don't get to have an opinion on that issue. Someone pm'ed me a similar response when I commented about the monkeypox. And honestly, I don't give a crap about this.
